chilly cherries

the other day when i walked jose to school i passed by this tree that caught my eye--covered in red, snow (not chocolate!) covered cherries. i didn't know what type of berries they were until i came up close to take a shot of them. aren't they pretty?

it's been snowing off and on here for the past few weeks now...hamburgers tell us it hasn't snowed this much since 'the winter of 1979.' before we moved here we thought it would snow all the time...but last year it barely snowed for 2 days i think. it's not as common as we thought. however, everyone seems to like this chilly change.

i have to say i like the snow. to me, it dresses up the bleak winter landscape with lovely, white icing.

a prickly bush that looks so sad and lonesome without its leaves all of the sudden becomes a work of art.

what i like about the snow, too, is that with it comes a dense quietness in the city. i think it must muffle out the sounds or something. i'll just be standing there in the snow and the hush of silence awakens my senses. i never knew that the sound of absolute silence cushioned by snow was so beautiful.

guess you can tell that these angelenos are adjusting just fine to a colder climate :) i mean, with snow covered cherries, who can complain?!
