The saying in the picture--above--
Gott Mit Uns
means, yes, you guessed it,
God With Us.
Gott Mit Uns
means, yes, you guessed it,
God With Us.

I was surprised yet delighted to find this while on a tour of the Hamburg Rathaus--above--which is Hamburg's government building located right in the center of town (that's the Alster behind it). What is interesting is that it's the capitol building for the state of Hamburg and also for the city--so there's a double dose of work going on here. Important stuff!

The building was destroyed in the fire of 1842 but was rebuilt and completed in 1897. This poor, shabby building has 647 rooms, most ornate with gold, marble, and precious woods. But what I loved most was when they took us to the room--above--where I found the inscription. The guide told us that this is the room where all the important decisions are made, and that the ceiling is made of glass--the only one like it in the building. It was meant to symbolize that the leaders making decisions could not do so without looking toward heaven and asking for God's wisdom and help. I like that!

Although I think the current government is far from seeking the Lord for Godly wisdom, all things are possible with Him, and it is our prayer that the leaders of the state and city of Hamburg are men and women after His own heart and that they seek His wisdom in these most inner rooms. See--below-- there's Gracie marching right in to make sure it's being done!
God is with us!
