Big Town, Little City

come on a walk with us through the antiquated streets of

LUNEBURG

my parents, grace and i played tourist here last week.  it's about 30 minutes south of hamburg.  to me, it's got that small town feel, but is definitely not small, so i told my parents to expect it to be more like a 'big town' (if there is such a thing).  but my dad, after we arrived, said, "oh no, krista, this is definitely a city."  (then we bantered back and forth on why we each thought we were correct in our assumptions)

what we all agreed on for sure was that this town/city (that was first founded around 956 AD!) had enough charm to keep us gawking during our short little 2 hour visit

i think i inherited my appreciation of architecture from my parents.  thus, all three of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we walked with eyes lifted to admire the buildings around us. my mom took this shot of these amazing windows, and i just love the detail of the brick

thankfully LUNEBURG was not destroyed in WWII, so it leaves a plethora from the distant past for one's eyes to feast upon

again, here, the brick work...i love it!

each meandering street had its own distinct treasures

and if you haven't noticed yet, this city/town is covered with profuse and colorful geraniums hanging out of its windows

 told ya so

we were a bit sad to have to bring our time in LUNEBURG to an end, but time was a'tickin and off we had to go.  however, it is my obligation to inform you that it most definitely is a town, not a city--i did my research and so there you have it. but dad, if you'd like to call it a city it's totally fine by me ;)
