i love watching the kids when they're asleep.  they seem so at peace after a long day of playing hard.  and in the quietness of their sweet slumber i love studying their perfect little features clearly designed by the hand of God...their eye lashes, their noses, their lips.  they are so beautiful to me.

but onto the theme of this post:

R E S T

buddy and i were both sick this past weekend.  and at one point we looked at each other and said,

we need a break.

we need to go on a vacation.

we need to

we love what we're doing here but

we have been

going & going & going

we were surprised ourselves to realize that we haven't gone on a relaxing vacation since the summer of 2006.  a lot has gone on since then! jose came home to us in january of 2007, grace in august of 2007, and then we moved our family across the globe in january of 2009.  honestly, all of it has been so exciting that we never felt that we even needed a vacation...until now. 

so today is the first day of our two week's vacation.  unfortunately, buddy still has to go to school, but he's going to take 2 days off so we can have a 4 day vacation.  and with the remainder of our time we're going to take it slow, spend time as a family, try not to use the computer, and take a break from all of our ministry stuff.  it's just been one day and it already feels different.
