culture & cuisine

belegte brotchen
this is my personal favorite:
bread, butter, cheese, cucumber & red bell pepper
i received such a positive response about my german food post (back in june) that i figured i might as well give you more of it. aren't we always interested in the food of other cultures and how they do things differently?

a major difference here is that germans will eat 'belegte brotchen' (sandwiches) for breakfast--like these lovely items herein displayed. so when you're at a cafe in the morning hours, you will not see people stuffing their faces with donuts--but more often with one of these guys.

this was buddy's choice the other morning:
bread, butter, cheese & prosciutto

what's different as you might have noticed is that there's no mayo or mustard--just butter--but we have come to enjoy the taste so much that now we prefer it.
also a change up for us is the size of these things--they are pretty small. germans eat smaller portions than americans. no Super Sized or "Footlongs" here--which is refreshing. just enough to curb your hungry tummy.

of course people will grab a danish for breakfast--they have lots of pastries to choose from--but the sandwiches in the morning has been the greatest difference we've noticed and the one that we've adopted happily as well.
happy eating to you all!
