Foundation Building

(Krista) I often think in images and pictures when trying to convey a message, and I have a picture I'd like to share with you for the stage of the process we are currently in right now in regards to our ministry work here in Hamburg.

Some of you may remember a previous post where I wrote about how I felt we were in the Getting Rooted stage—seeking God for where He would have us place our roots as far as friendships, community, where he would have us live and worship. Well, the friendships we have made are continuing to deepen...we have been ‘rooted’ in our new home and community now for two months, and we think we have finally found a home church. This is great news! However, now I feel like we are in a new season. I’m calling it a season of Foundation Building. Here’s why.

Have you ever driven by a construction site and seen it in its foundation stages? As the picture above shows, it is not an attractive stage of the building process. I have often been amazed at the depth of certain building’s foundations—especially when I come to see that the final product is often as tall as the depth of the foundation! I have looked into these massive holes and at times have had my breath taken away—the pits were enormous, and there was much more work taking place in them to make them perfectly fit and prepared than I had ever imagined or realized. These were being expertly built. And how important this stage of the process must be! We would rather have this unattractive stage of the process done with—and hurry onto to the pretty part. Of course we want to see the finished product and to see it in its glory. That is what we long for.

So it is with us right now in the work God has called us to do here in Hamburg. We believe right now that the Expert Builder is busy building a perfect foundation for our ministry here. And like ‘men on the job,’ we as a family have our parts to do as well. Currently we are establishing and deepening important relationships with various people the Lord has brought into our path. Buddy has been connecting with different pastors and leaders of key ministries here in Hamburg and he continues to meet with new people on a regular basis. He loves this!

Much of what we are doing right now is laying a foundation of PRAYER—and this may not look like much to the naked eye but it is vital for what the Lord has called us to do here. We still have burning hearts for the Reeperbahn—Hamburg’s red light district. Guess where most of our time is spent walking the streets praying? You guessed it. Buddy often feels compelled to go there--sometimes early in the morning, sometimes at night. A foundation is being laid. What ends up being built by the Master is in His hands. We try and concentrate on our current tasks at hand and we know in time we will begin to see the finished product.

We are encouraged daily about this Foundation Building stage we are in, and we have such a peace and contentment about it. We are humbled and thankful enough by the fact that God even called us here in the first place—and we are excited for what's ahead.

Much love to you all,
Krista
