(BUDDY) I spent some time today near a large group of people (75+) on the streets that are addicted to drugs, alcohol, etc. They were all huddled around together and it is a rough site to see regardless of where you are in the world. One thing that struck me as I was standing there was something that I heard many years ago from a pastor friend of ours. He said, "We all have a story....."
I realized as I stood there that there have been many times where I have looked at people who are down and out and I have looked at them as nameless, faceless and lifeless people. The reality is that looking at people this way is safer, easier and cleaner. However, something very significant happened to me today as I remembered back on what I heard many years ago that we ALL have a story. It instantly changed the way I was looking at the people. I started looking at person after person who looked destroyed on the outside and asking myself, "What's his story? What about her?" For me, it helped put life, a face and a history back into that person and it softened my heart in the process.
We are praying that we can realize God's Love for the people of Hamburg and what happened today was a step in that direction. Thank you Lord for what happened today as You knew what I needed.
