Easier Said Than Done?

(BUDDY) God has made it abundately clear to us that our measure of success in Hamburg is if we keep our eyes on Jesus. Not...."if" we start a church, not "if" we lead 1,000 people to Jesus, not "if" we reach out to people addicited to drugs, not "if" we reach out to women in prostitution and not "if" we reach the men at the highest levels who run the drugs, prostitution and crime in Hamburg. No, this is a different measure of success. For me, for the past 13 years from a work perspective, my measure of success was easy to understand and to track, "Did you hit your sales number and did you spend within your budget?" That is clear, consice and easy to measure. What I have learned in these first 7 weeks is that keeping my eyes on Jesus is far from easy. The world we all live in screams for us to keep our eyes on anything but Him. But I have also learned that during those moments where my eyes are on Him there is no greater clarity, no greater peace and no greater sense of purpose within me. That is where I want to live. The Bible says it perfectly, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Hi Buddy,

I came to work this morning in a cranky mood, not knowing if I truly love what I am doing, just having one of those days. And the very first e-mail I opened was from krista saying you posted something new on your blog, now mind you I had about 5 e-mails I could have opened before but I always look out for yours and krista e-mail!! :)
Anyways, I just want to thank you for sharing your thoughts and what you wrote was so powerful to me and it truly opened my eyes in a time of doubt. Thank you and thank you for so quickly getting me out of my cranky mood!! I miss all of you so much! I want to jump on the next flight out!! I am so thankful to have you and krista and my little prince and princess in my life!! xoxox

Thanks Buddy!!!
Totally reminds me of Hebrews 12:2 (The Message)
"Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed--that exhilarating finish in and with God-he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in you faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!"

Thanks for the reminder!!!
