the Wheels on the Bus

The bus. Our new mode of transportation
Other than the subway, this is our new car
Fancy! It seats about 50 people :)
Here we are at our local bus stop on our way to church
The red box is where you buy your tickets
All aboard?!

Here is Daddy, smiling a fake smile because he is REALLY embarrassed that mommy has her camera out on the public transportation. Usually we try hard to blend in with the locals, but not on this particular Sunday as mommy thought it'd be fun to do a blog about the bus.

The kids both do well on the bus--usually. I think they think it's fun--like a lil exciting adventure. However, there was one time during rush hour around 6pm when Grace was screaming so loudly--and wouldn't stop--that I had to get OFF the bus just because I couldn't handle knowing that her screaming was driving people batty. From my brief observations, it is my personal opinion that crying children are not allowed in Germany. Anyway, usually Miss Gracie Anne enjoys her ride (and so do the others). She prefers to sit at the window seat.

Now as for Jose, he often makes the most mundane things fun. His favorite seat is the very last row of the bus. Here he is, on the last row, trying to entertain the girl next to him, and as you can see by her facial expression, it wasn't really working. He was singing "The windows on the bus go up and down!"

"The teachers on the bus say 'Shh shh shh!'"
This girl is thinking, "WHAT is he DOING?
These Americans are so weird!"

Now in defense of our sweet boy, before this girl was on the bus, he was sitting next to two young guys...and he kept giving them high fives and they loved every minute of it. Just depends who you're sitting next to I guess :)

This is our emergency weapon: the lollypop
We should carry them at all times but often forget
Only use if one of the kids
is about to have a meltdown on the bus
Almost always works

We love our new form of transportation. The bus stop is a block from our apartment, and where we live in the city is centrally located to everything. I'd say we're about a 15 minute bus ride from most places we go. We are really enjoying not having (or even needing) a car.
Here's to city life!

Oh, I wish I could have seen Jose giving the boys high 5's! I wonder if the little girl was worried about the singing American boy or the singing American mommy encouraging all the nonsense! Too cute!

i love him sitting proud at the back of the bus! reminds me of the first week here in london and riding a double decker bus for the girls' first time. we had to sit up top in the front row and the girls squeeled every time we almost scraped a bridge or almost scraped the cars on the narrow roads. total tourist looking americans!!
