(Buddy) Hello Friends & Family,
Greetings! We are finally getting used to the time change as a family and we are still in an overall adjustment phase but things get a little easier everyday. I struggled with how much or little to write but I figured a brief update on some of the stuff going on would be best so you get a taste of what is going on with us:
- Sunday (1/18): Attended the church that I spoke at the last time we were in Hamburg in September 2006. It was great to see some old friends and meet some new ones as well. One man shared a vision with me that he had 10 years ago about how God was going to send Americans to Germany to work along side the German people and tell them about Jesus. It was pretty heavy but extremely encouraging talking with him as you feel like a small piece of what God is doing in Germany.
- Monday: Officially Registered in Hamburg in the "Aliens Office". This was our first visit to an Aliens Office, so just in case we forgot that we are foreigners, the Aliens Office brings you back down to earth. This is the first step in trying to get a long term residence visa and it went well. Our big appointment is coming up this Monday (1/26).
- Tuesday: Something that has been on our hearts/minds for many months is that we would love to rent out a certain bar (which is actually called BUDDY's--no joke) in the area of town called The Reeperbahn (which is Hamburg's Red Light District). We would love to rent it out in the mornings or possibly at night to have Bible Studies, Worship Music, Hanging Out, etc. The idea of trying to be a light in the middle of the worst part of Hamburg is very exciting to us and something that has been on out minds for many months. We were able to talk with the bartender and he is passing along our info to the owner. If you are interested, this is something that we would love for you to join us in prayer about.
- Wednesday: I was asked to speak at a home group Bible study of one of our friends. It was a great time as we ended up praying for people the entire time and God really ministered to each person in a special way.
- Thursday: Opened up our bank account and we are making sure we have everything in order for our appointment on Monday with the German government. Krista takes the kids to the local park in the afternoon for something called "SpielHaus" (play house) which is basically moms from the local neighborhood and their little kids getting together to play, do crafts, hang out and eat German sweets. The government actually pays for this, which is very cool. Jose and Grace love it and they are already feeling totally comfortable with the other kids.
Ongoing Adjustments (Some good, some hard): The kids sharing the same room for the first time, walking up 3 flights of stairs to get to our apartment, the colder weather, living in a city, living in an apartment, no backyard, no car, taking public transportation, no dryer, being 9 hours ahead of most of our family/friends, living in a city where you do not know the language very well.

Love the updates, bro. Keep 'em coming.
PS: I hope your hair doesn't suffer too badly without a dryer.
Wait -- just occurred to me -- you meant no clothes dryer. Doh! Well, I hope your hair doesn't suffer too much, nonetheless.
Glad someone is looking out for my hair as there is some serious bad hair in this country!
I am mad at the computer right now because I had a VERY witty comment that is now lost to the ages.
So, I will try to remember the number of things I had to say.
1.) Germany? Is that why you haven't returned our calls? I
2). the place looks great. I see little accents of Krista and I love it. You do such a great job of quickly making a place feel like home, plus, with all the delicious smells of your homecooked meals wafting throughout the apartment, how could it not feel like home?
3). God will get you exercising despite yourselves. He does hear our prayers! Three flights of stairs with two not so light little ones? Some people pay big bucks for a work out like that. As long as you are not munching on a sausage while you climb, you should be okay.
4). I know a highlight of my life from henceforth will be reading about how God is using you. And we get to share in it! Glorious! And how He is using the kids as well!!! Good times.
Love you all!
